THE BIO

Ashley Wilburn is a native of Hagerstown in Maryland. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School where she completed her secondary education. With a deep passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice is centered around a variety of aspects of family issues. She concentrates a large portion of her work on divorce cases, alimony disputes property distribution in marital relationships child custody battles child support arrangements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement and issues such as step-parent or private party adoptions, as well as concerns regarding child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including trusts, wills and probate, and estate administration, in addition to commercial contract, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been as a mediator appointed by the court since the year 2019, assisting parties in helping them resolve their matters without needing court involvement. Ashley mediates private disputes as well as court-appointed mediation for those who want to avoid litigation and court processes.

Ashley completed her undergraduate studies in History and Politics at Loyola University of Maryland. She then pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was placed among the top 10 students in her class. Ashley was a Note Editor for the Western New England Law Review during her time in law school. This demonstrated her commitment to scholarship and legal research.

Ashley began her clerkship journey after completing her law degree. She worked for renowned jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of being a law assistant for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. In 2014, she returned home to Hagerstown Maryland to work as an attorney for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. as an associate attorney. The primary goal of the firm was to represent the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters that involved child welfare. Through her dedication, Ashley played a vital role in assisting children who had suffered abuse or neglect at the parent or caregivers. Her dedication to social justice went beyond the legal realm as she was active as an executive member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, working diligently to raise awareness about human trafficking in the tri-state area.

In 2017 she was a founding member at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and developed her expertise in family law – custody, divorce and child maintenance, as well as guardianships and financial planning and estate planning – wills, trusts and powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies and mediation.
